Hey everyone! I’m finally sitting down to answer the number one question in my DMs: Is Vietnam actually cheap? The short answer is YES. The long answer is... it depends on you.
After living here and traveling up and down the coast, I’ve put together a realistic Vietnam travel budget. No fluff, just the real numbers from my receipts for a 2-week adventure.

Eating My Way Through the Budget
Honestly, food was where I thought I’d spend the most, but it was surprisingly cheap. My absolute favorite, a bowl of piping hot Pho on a tiny plastic stool, was consistently about $1.50. I stuck mostly to street food because, frankly, it tastes better than the restaurants!
Sleep, Tours, and Moving Around
I like my privacy, so no hostel dorms for me. I found lovely little homestays and mid-range hotels for around $25 a night. They were clean, had AC (crucial!), and super friendly hosts.

The biggest splurge was definitely the Ha Long Bay Cruise. I paid about $180 for a nice 2-day/1-night trip. Don't cheap out on this—safety first, guys! For getting around, I used Grab apps religiously. It’s so much safer than hailing random taxis.
So, What’s the Total?
If you travel "comfortably" like me—eating well, sleeping in private rooms, and taking a flight or two instead of the 12-hour train—budget about $75 per day. That covers everything once you land.
But be careful with shopping! I almost blew my budget on custom clothes in Hoi An. It’s hard to resist! 😂
If you're heading there soon, make sure to get travel insurance. Better safe than sorry!
