Our Romantic (and Slightly Dusty) Phu Quoc Getaway: 10 Highlights

After living in Vietnam for nearly a decade, my boyfriend and I finally decided to do a "real" trip to Phu Quoc. We weren't looking for the typical honeymoon fluff—we wanted the good food, the quiet beaches, and maybe a bit of adventure. It turned out to be one of the best weeks we’ve had in years. Here’s a look at what we actually did (and what it actually cost!).

Sunset with beer at Phu Quoc

Daily Sunsets & Island Vibes

The sunset at Long Beach was our daily anchor. We’d just grab some beers from the corner shop and sit by the waves. It’s free, it’s beautiful, and it’s the best way to end the day. We also spent a day island hopping in the south. The snorkeling at Hon Gam Ghi was a pleasant surprise—plenty of fish and clear water. If you're a fan of snorkeling, you might want to check out my guide on the best snorkeling spots on the island.

High Views & Night Markets

The Hon Thom Cable Car ride was probably the highlight of the week. The 20-minute ride gives you such a cool view of the fishing boats below. At night, we were usually at the Duong Dong Night Market. It's a bit touristy, but the street food is incredible. We’d spend about 200k-300k VND and come back completely stuffed!

Finding the Quiet Spots

We loved Rach Vem (Starfish Beach). It’s a bit of a trek on a motorbike, but seeing the starfish in that clear water is worth it. For something different, we also went to the Suoi Tranh Waterfall in the National Park. It's a nice, shady walk and only costs 10k VND. We even visited a local pepper farm—Phu Quoc pepper is the best souvenir you can bring home!

Motorbikes & Local Eats

The best thing we did was rent a motorbike (150k VND). It let us explore the northern tip of the island near Ganh Dau, where it’s much more peaceful. We ended our trip with a local seafood dinner for 400k VND—grilled grouper and hotpot. It was the perfect, low-key end to an amazing week.
